Is it just me or are we seeing an increase of third party inventory sites attempting to straddle the fence between lead provider and consumer advocate? Earlier this year we were embroiled in the CarFax controversy, when they began adding the “History Impact” to their reports. This “added value” component to the CarFax report shows the consumer what CarFax thinks your car is worth, by either adding a plus or minus figure to the listing. This past week we saw an article posted on CarGuru.com, warning the consumer against the unscrupulous trade-in tactics being practiced by the evil car dealer.   For those that don’t know, CarGuru.com is the latest upstart third party inventory host and lead provider to some of the most popular venders. They are paid by companies like Dealix and Cars.com to host your used car inventory and provide leads to those companies.
