Do you screen your BDC employees for grammar?

Megan Barto
How (& if) do you screen your BDC employees for if they have proper grammar or not? After all - their will be sending e-mails I hope they know the proper form of "they're, their & there" (see what I did they're?) :-)
David Sharma
Its probably best to go through a few scenarios with you first or just gauge it on their email correspondence I agree proper grammar and sentence structure can make a big difference

I have them send me a few e mails and make a few calls to me

Ask them to hand write a letter. Seriously. It's fun. Try it. No phones, no technology, just pen and paper. You really see their true skill set.

I hope they can write with a pen and paper. People shouldn't always rely on spell check!
Keith Wilkerson
Proper grammar is still important, but less so as our society and culture are changing. I was a journalism major, so I'm preconditioned to be sensitive to proper grammar. More and more of our customers are responding on the go by mobile device. You have to be able to adapt how you communicate to every customer. The quicker you can turn an email into a 2-way conversation is what is most important.
