Determining Original MSRP on a Used Car

Big Tom LaPointe
I have used MSN autos in the past for a manual ballpark, but haven't seen an automated method from a vin breakout so far. I've always prayed that the original sticker was in the books! lol

Depending on the age of your used inventory, some of the more popular VIN Decoders provide the MSRP in the dataset. For some car lines this value might be very difficult to find, as the Base MSRP might be the value provided vs. MSRP including optional equipment, that is the value everyone cares about. Just an idea.

I remember I used to be able to find that information on Edmunds or KBB. The data is still online. Sometime it is better to hope that the original window sticker is in the trade in the glovebox.

Thanks for the responses guys. I doubt there's any way to automate it but they'll have a few options if they decide to go with a manual process.

You may be happy to know that part of the new DealerTrack Inventory Suite includes Like New Window stickers for every make & model. If you go through and select all of the factory installed options, which are all visible within the tool, those will be added to the like new sticker as well. We find that this really help sell value to consumers when they can see the original MSRP next to your lower used price.

Very cool...
