Ford’s $400 Vehicle Subscription Service

February 7, 2018 0 Comments

The blue oval automaker is targeting a group of consumers who may not want to buy a vehicle, by offering a subscription service.

According to a Forbes report, Ford is offering a 24/7-vehicle subscription service. While automakers such as Porsche offer vehicle subscriptions, insurance, and service for upward of $2000-$3000 per month, Ford is reportedly offering subscriptions to pre-owned cars for $400 on the canvas platform. The report on the Ford initiative states mileage plans vary and if unused may roll over into the next month. The Forbes story also points out a desire on the part of Ford to get dealers more involved, indicating the potential for dealerships to offer used vehicle subscriptions on the same platform.

Speaking about the subscription initiative, Ford Credit Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales David McClelland told Forbes, in part, that the subscription offers “…multiple cars, multiple customers, variable term, variable payment. This is how we stay relevant in the world.”

As we’ve reportedly previously with BMW, Porsche, and Cadillac, automakers are experimenting with vehicle subscription services. Do you think vehicle subscriptions will play a major role in the future of automotive retail?
