Volkswagen’s all Electric Race Car Breaks World Records

June 28, 2018 0 Comments

Volkswagen has broken a few world records this week with their first one of a kind all electric race car the I.D. R Pikes Peak.

This year Volkswagen has been under the microscope for multiple negative stories like testing the effects of diesel fuel on monkeys, and being fined 1.2 billion dollars by prosecutors in Germany for misleading the public on their emissions.

But with I.D. R Pikes Peak, they are changing the tide.
On Sunday June, 24th, Volkswagens all electric race car set an overall race record for the famous mountain pass race Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They beat the previous record by 16 seconds. They also set a new record for the fastest electric vehicle to finish the race with a time of 7:57, beating the previous all electric vehicle finishing time by one minute.

Since 1916 the race has happened 96 times. The course is nearly 12 and a half miles long and has 156 corners. Race up hill, it finishes 12,400 feet above sea level.

Volkswagen built this car in just 250 days making the announcement and starting the project in October of 2017.
