Texting While Driving May Be "OK" In The Future

We all know it’s unsafe to text and drive. In case it needs to be stated again, distracted driving is bad and there’s lots of government funded stats to back that up. It seems that we’re getting the message though; the number of distracted driving accidents is on the downturn!

It seems that there are two camps fighting to keep you safe and both have very different ways of going about it. The larger of the two camps would like to disable your tech. This camp believes that they need to save us from ourselves by removing the distraction. Many of the solutions involve turning off the SMS, voice and data connections once you enter the vehicle or when you reach a certain MPH.

The other camp wants to build safer ways to stay connected. Instead of disabling data, they’re interested in keeping us connected, safer. Since I’d put myself in this category (and I’m not really looking for a debate) I thought I’d share something that was shared with me:

Their tagline is "Feels Like Driving In The Future” and I’m sure it does. Navdy makes your Ford Fusion feel like a luxury vehicle by providing a heads up display (HUD) for all your communication channels. The product video may not take itself very seriously and I don’t know what happens when you make a hard right turn, but what's happening here means serious changes to how we communicate on the road... safely.

Wanted to share this interesting way to keep us connected on the road. Anyone else have any “safely connected” tech to share?

Hmmm... Until I try this, Im not sure it's much safer than texting and driving. Interesting though!

For $299, I can wait until I park the car. It's definitely forward thinking technology, but the price tag is too high to gain any real traction.

Yes, great article! I'm sure my buddy at http://www.ultimatedefensivedriving.us, will enjoy this article. I'll have him feature a similar article. Nice find!
