2015 Google Map SEO Rule Changes

302062082bc80ad2e8bb0a5c13340764.png?t=1

Google changed the way we find businesses

Have you noticed the map listings changed in the main Google search results? According to one study, MORE people are looking at more of your competitions map listings than before because of layout.  Not because they are on the first page of the search, but because of button design & where Google placed the buttons in the map listings of search results. The goal seems to be to give companies with better reviews more traffic.

You may of noticed already

  1. No more 7 pack of listings, now there is only 3 locations listed (Ya, you may want to be in the top 3 now)
  2. Not an algarithimic change... Meaning if you were in #1, you will stay there. It just means #4 - #7 won't be seen till they click on your business name
  3. The "Business Name & Review Area" now shows your competition not just your information

This Means New SEO Focus For Companies

  • REVIEW STRATEGY: Online reviews in Google Maps matter even more now. More people may see your competition even when they were looking for you, and reviews will determine where you end up on the list of 10 competitors
  • AIM TO GET TO TOP 3: 4th place just doesn't cut it like it used to
