Truth About Automotive Consulting

This is my last posting for 2009 and I love to bring a unique subject on DrivingSales, just arrived back from west coast after addressing a mega dealer group. At the end of the session we had a very candid discussion about their experience with some of the consultants from our industry in recent months and year. There were some who were impressed with the knowledge and training they had received from these consultants and some of them were very outspoken about their negative experience. Further probing I found regardless of their experiences either way they revealed a deep desire of one specific issue. I was thinking about all the comments I heard and I wanted to make sure they are not being influenced by each other so asked them to write down one item that they would want to change if they could. It was a true shock to see what they wrote down. Before I reveal the finding on Driving Sales I wanted to ask our readers to participate here and just write down their expectations. I would like our dealer community tell us from across the country at to what is the most important thing they would want from us. At the same time I want to ask our respective vendor colleagues “All consultants in auto industry” to write as to what do we think our dealers want when we engage with them in true consulting. I will reveal my last two years worth of finding on Monday January 11th, 2010.

Dear Dear Rafi, You know the lessons you have learned over the past many years and especially the last two traveling around the country has a value that no other consultant can match. I have been blessed by experiencing much the same as you have regarding experiences with consultants including the pros and cons that come with have one. So before I reveal my experiences let me say that I can appreciate both sides of the consultant dealership relationship, in fact I spoke over two years ago about finding a consultant at digital dealer. Now, the right match between dealership and consultant must be met, both in experience and expectations. What I have found is two many times the dealership hires a generalist when they need a specialist. I could go on and on about this but let's hear from some other consultants that have been in the retail business and some dealerships. I will check back in a week.
