Physical POP Merchandising of a dealership and its inventory

Can anyone in the trenches of a new or used location answer a question that I cant seem to get satisfactorily answered?: With a dealerships physical location such an integral part of their business model (location, location, location) why is there so little done to effectively merchandise a stores inventory, location and other services? I appreciate any and all input! Wendi
