Interesting stats from this study:

"New salespeople, employed less than a year, who planned to stay longer than 10 years were still motivated first by money (32%), however 26% of individuals were motivated by the chance for self improvement or career growth opportunities. This= finding indicates that newer, committed salespeople are more often motivated by factors outside of compensation."

Although compensation still drives salespeople's motivations, there's still an opportunity for dealerships to incorporate career growth and training to attract and motivate hardworking employees.

It's kind of funny because what Salespeople don't realize, at the fault of the dealership, is that their personal development directly impacts their compensation.  No matter the structure, if you're chasing money you'll never be happy because it will never be enough.  It has a negative effect on the culture of the dealership.
