Can someone please explain the top 5 features absolutely essential for a Dealer Management System?

I think this question would really depend on what element of the system you are interested in. Marketing? Fixed? Staffing? The DMS is the brain of the dealership. Lots of moving parts! Were you curious about anything in specific?

Customer service. All DMS's are designed to provide the basic needs with bells and whistles added. I agree with Grant in that some DMS's will emphasis some part of the working system better than others. But the true separator of any major software application is Customer Service. How quick they are to respond to issues and how good they are (quality solutions to your issues). We currently use Reynolds for the past 13 years and are looking to switch at the end of this contract. Leaving Reynolds because they tend to take control of your life and data and bleed you and your vendor for all the green they can get out of you. Was going to go to Arkona; but DealerTrack spoiled that. The infusion of capital when they bought Arkona helped get the OEM certifications needed but brought a price tag increase. AutoSoft is next down the line. Maybe... But also looking at a possible open-dms solution that I saw Dave Nelson working with. Something needs to rock the boat of the top tiers as they hold all dealerships hostage.
