Advertising with Streaming Services

Craig Wilson
I'm curious if anyone out there has tried advertising with streaming services like Hulu, Pandora or Spotify that don't allow you to skip ads with their free versions. If so, what kind of success did you have?
Lezlie Brannan
We just started about a month ago. Lots of clicks, big bounce rate. I plan to play around with ads to see if we can get some better traffic, but so far, I'm not impressed.

We've been advertising with Pandora for two months. Last month our campaign generated just over 2,000 web visits, but similar to Lezlie, there was a high bounce rate and low time on site. The campaign did generate 8 phone calls and 5 form submissions although that's nothing to write home about. Based on what I've seen, I do believe that Pandora is a viable advertising platform. I'm a firm believer in the theory that there's no such thing as bad advertising mediums, just bad messages. So for us, the potential traffic is there, we just need to tweak our message and what we deliver after the click.

Thanks for the feedback. What are your thoughts on Hulu? I know a lot of people use it for binge watching shows, and even on Hulu Plus you still have to watch the ads. I wonder how that would compare with a music streaming service.

I looked into Pandora for our dealership but wasn't really sold on it since our community as a whole hasn't made it to the Pandora phase yet. I do push it though with customers when they come in to look at our new cars that come equipped with it. What Lezlie and Jason both said were my main concern as to not jumping into it yet. Just because it is causing more traffic doesn't mean that it's good traffic.
