How Does Recognition Help With Your Retention?

Over the years, I have seen a lot of various retention programs, everything from bonuses to awards. But more often than not, they were monthly, quarterly, or annually. So it was expected. Instead of creating a program/award that is expected, what about offering a program that enables your management to recognize your employee's efforts randomly? It allows you - as a manager - to offer recognition in a meaningful, relevant way based on an 'action' vs. an entire quarter's worth of actions. We have found this to be very helpful and help towards the efforts of increasing retention.
