Who will Insure my Autonomy?

Amanda Gordon

If cars will soon be driving themselves who will be responsible for insuring the 4000 pound robot? The owner or the manufacturer?  Thoughts...

The owner makes the most sense. It's their possession.

This is a large debate right now. Where the discussion is geared towards it being the  *owner* is responsible for any and all damages that occur in the vehicle. However, if the vehicle mal-functions (and was perfectly maintained by the owner) then the OEM/Manufacturer could be held liable for issues much like they are with recalls? I think this is going to be very lucrative for insurance companies, and I wonder how much monthly premiums will go up given there isn't near enough data for cause/risk on these units!

I vote Owner
