5 Mistakes that Small Businesses Make when Selecting Their Web-Based CRM

list imageGetting good web-based CRM software can bring many benefits to one’s small business. If one has been using such Customer Relationship Management software before, then their business must have been accruing some benefits. However, even there being so many benefits to gain from these systems, many small business owners do not know how to buy the best software and they end up being very disappointed. The software is not to blame. Rather, the business owners fall into pitfalls during the purchase process and during the CRM implementation.

The following are five of the most common mistakes:

  1. Reading the curves very high

The market today has a wide array of CRM software solutions that small businesses can choose and they all come with different programs. This large number of CRM systems tends to pull small business owners especially with the many advanced features. The features are great, right, but such software will only work for a business if the owner knows how to use it. One should ensure that the software that they are eying is the best fitted for the particular business’s type and size. It will be better to get a web-based CRM as these are more scalable, have better user support services and are easier to use.

  1. Insufficient training time

One among the 5 mistakes that small businesses make when selecting their web-based CRM systems is the failure to devote sufficient time to train their employees on the system’s use. Most small businesses take the presumption that the users of the system will “pick it up with some use” but this always ends up in frustration and most importantly, very costly mistakes. To get the most out of the CRM software, one will want to host regular trainings to continuously improve the skills of the system users so that they can provide better and newer solutions to the problems facing the business.

  1. Improper integration

The problem of poor CRM integration is faced by big businesses as well as small businesses. Conventionally, the business owners launch the customer relationship management - CRM systems without having a clear plan on how to incorporate the system with the other existing business strategies and tools. For a CRM system to function in the best way and for a business to realize any benefits, all the other aspects of the business will need to be properly linked together so that employees in different areas of the business will know what is going on in other departments.

  1. Lack of sufficient support

Another one among the 5 mistakes that small businesses make when selecting their web-based CRM is choosing the one that costs the least. While lack of some features may cause some actual reduction in prices, one should never compromise on customer support services. Be sure to pick CRM software that will offer assistance all the time.

  1. Getting stuck in reports

After small businesses have implemented CRM software, especially for the first time, they mostly find themselves spending a lot of time analyzing stats other than changing the way they conduct their businesses. To deal with problems properly, a business owner will want to appoint a leader to decide on the most important changes to be implemented.
