Seeing a picture of David Bowie made me think of an old boss I had one time. Not because my boss looked like Bowie but because of an experience we shared.
Flying back from a job overseas I had to sit in business, my boss (George) sat in first class. After the flight, George waited in his seat until I was up to him to deboard the plane. I asked him how his flight went and while waiting an unusually long time to get off the plane, he eventually worked his way around to a conversation he had with young man that was seated next to him, after bragging about the job he just completed he asked the stranger "so what do you do?" the stranger said " Oh I sing a little and play a little guitar" My boss told this stranger "that was all well and good but maybe he oughta settle down and get a real job to support your wife and family like a man should" My boss had no idea who this man was, nor did he take into consideration where he was (first class on an international flight) when he doled out this advice.
After we finally got off the plane we had to work our way through a crowd waving banners and people collecting autographs etc... George turned to me and said "that's the bum I sat next to on the flight, who I told to get a real job" It was David Bowie
The lesson I learned that day. "Know your audience, before giving advice"
