Whether you are working in a huge warehouse or a cozy garage, you naturally want to use the hydraulic auto lift that is best suited to your unique needs. For decades, professionals were compelled to make the most of very limited lift options. However, modern workers have access to innovative alternatives of which you may not even be aware. Using the proper equipment for your situation will allow you to work more efficiently, and you may want to consider some of the following choices.

In-Ground Lifts

The earliest lifts were comprised of holes dug into the ground, with ramps installed above them to allow light to penetrate the viewing area. These may seem uninteresting to someone who is looking for a futuristic-looking piece of machinery, but in-ground lifts are actually very effective and are still common today. They require very little space and are ideal for any size garage. Hydraulic scissors or pistons are sometimes added to increase versatility, combining modern technology with timeless practicality.

2-Post Lifts

Approximately 70% of surface lifts purchased are comprised of 2 posts. These take up little room, and they also offer ample access to the vehicle’s undercarriage. Some kinds can hold up to 12,000 lbs.

Symmetrical lifts were the standard for decades, and are still ideal for balancing many rear-wheel drive cars. However, asymmetrical lifts are becoming a popular option, due to the easier entry they afford to the doors. Either 2-post model can be effective, depending on your personal preference.

4-Post Lifts

Another option for workers concerned about door access are 4-post types. Not only do they give you entry to the doors, they also provide ample room beneath the vehicle. Some varieties feature 20-inch adjustable runways and 14,000 lb. capacity, making them very versatile.

Parallelogram Lifts

Due to their complete absence of columns, these machines are popular with technicians. Many kinds can hold up to 50,000 lbs., with some even able to accommodate 115,000 lbs. This strength makes them powerful and useful workhorses. They also have options such as mechanical locks and surface mounts.

Scissor Lifts

These machines have a larger footprint than some other kinds, so people operating smaller shops sometimes shy away from them. However, they do allow for easy access to the underside of an automobile, so they are considered ideal by mechanics who dislike feeling obstructed.

Mobile Lifts

If the vehicle cannot come to you, a mobile lift enables you to go to the vehicle. These are battery powered and therefore quite versatile. You can choose between a 4- or 6-column model, depending on your personal preference and shop needs. You can also decide between and a light- or heavy-duty type, with some offering a weight capacity of 30,000 lbs.

No matter what size or style of automotive business you run, you will benefit from hydraulic lifts. With the amazing array now available, you can be certain you will be able to find the perfect fit for your needs.
