The Real Truth About Being Homemade
Check out this week's Work On Yourself Wednesday:
Everybody, welcome to another edition of Work on Yourself Wednesday. I'm Cory Mosley. As always thanks for tuning in. This week, I want to clear up something that's been kind of driving me a little bit crazy. You ever go into a restaurant, especially, like a local restaurant, or even a chain? And they want to talk to you about the idea that, “Oh we make it here.” “Oh, we make it from scratch.” “Oh, it's homemade.” I want to clear up some confusion here because I think a lot of people confuse the idea of homemade with meaning something greater than it is. In your business that might be the same thing as family owned and operated. And that's great for your history. But here's the missing link when we talk about homemade, or family owned and operated. The missing link is, it's still got to be good. I'm so thrilled that you make the homemade dressing here, but it's terrible. Now it doesn't matter that it was homemade. I'd gladly take the ketchup out of the bottle, or the A1 if your sauce just isn't good. Now I want you to think about that in your business. Just as you start to say, "Oh, great we're family owned and operated." That doesn't mean you run a good efficient business where you take care of your customers. So I want you not to sit on that confusion. My challenge to you this week is to ask yourself, “What are the things that I'm doing as an individual, whether I'm in sales, or I'm responsible for other people in management, that make me good?” Not, are we home grown? Or we homemade? But how good are we? I'll see you next week.
