Hiring Experiment #1: Video Resumes
Ladies and Gentlemen, I do believe I will be trying something new, new to the automotive industry anyway. I'm currently looking for a digital merchandiser to add to my team and it turns out a regular resume doesn’t illustrate to me the type of personality I need.
It’s hard to show the employer what kind of attitude you possess with nothing more than a list of previous occupations. As such, for my first wave (hopefully the only wave) of applicants I have asked to put together a 90 sec. video of the type of attitude, creativity, and fresh outlook they can bring to my team.
I did this because all we do in the studio can be taught and so I’m looking for a person with the right personality and attitude rather than someone with a plethora of work experience.
I also would like to help them grow vertically within the company so having them make a video would shine more light on how well they can fit in and how willing they are to grow within the company.
This could also become a new trend, who knows? I put this question to you, are video resumes a good idea or is there major flaws I’m not seeing with this new approach. Lastly, I would like to know who is willing to try it and share their outcome with me.
