Zeigler Auto Group’s 39th Annual Drive for Life Gala To Feature Ben Wallace As Guest Speaker

Zeigler Automotive Group today announced that it will be hosting the 39th Annual Drive for Life Foundation Charity Gala, alongside Greenleaf Trust, Brown & Brown Dealer Services, and Huntington Bank, on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center. The event, which will feature special guest speaker and soon-to-be NBA Hall of Famer Ben Wallace, hopes to raise $750,000 this year in benefit of various local charities — including the American Cancer Society of Kalamazoo, MRC Industries of Kalamazoo, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kalamazoo, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Michigan. Charity gala tickets are now on sale, with each $250 ticket admitting two guests for a social cocktail hour, silent auction, and live auction; plus, a raffle to win a new 2021 Honda Accord or $30,000 in cash.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (August 26, 2021) -- The Drive for Life Foundation Charity Gala, in benefit of the American Cancer Society and other Kalamazoo-area charities, will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at 100 W. Michigan Ave.

The event, which is presented by Zeigler Auto Group, Greenleaf TrustBrown & Brown Dealer Services, and Huntington Bank, will feature former professional basketball player and entrepreneur Ben Wallace. As a five-time All-NBA selection, four-time defensive player of the year, and member of the 2004 Pistons championship team—Wallace is regarded by many to be the greatest undrafted player in NBA history. Now a class of 2021 honoree for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, he continues to build his legacy through his work as minority owner and president of basketball operations of the Grand Rapids Gold of the NBA G League.

Wallace will be joining the Drive for Life Foundation for the annual gala as a special guest speaker just two days after his induction into the Hall of Fame. “I think it’s important for me to use my platform to bring awareness and to let people know that it’s time to go to war, and go to battle, against this disease because it has affected every last one of us. We all know somebody, we are all close to somebody, that has been affected by cancer, and it's time to fight this disease,” said Wallace.

After its cancellation last year due to COVID-19, 2021 will mark the 39th installment of the event, raising over $3 Million since its debut under Harold Zeigler in 1982. As always, all proceeds from the Drive for Life Foundation Charity Gala will go directly to its beneficiaries, with Zeigler Auto Group covering all costs associated with the event.

“For me, and I know for the rest of the Zeigler family, it’s truly an honor to be able to give back, not just to the charities themselves but to the people behind the scenes who tirelessly run these organizations for the good of the community. We will forever be grateful for all of their hard work and all the good that they do in the area,” Aaron J. Zeigler, president of Zeigler Auto Group.

This year’s recipients include the American Cancer Society, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Michigan, MRC Industries of Kalamazoo, Gull Lake Community Schools, Family Camps, the American Heart Association, Sherman Lake YMCA, K C Ready 4S, Southwest Michigan Miracle League, Wings of Mercy, Chef Therapeutic Riding Center, Walk Tall Foundation for Kids, and Family & Children Services.

“We have been lucky enough to be a beneficiary of the Drive For Life Foundation for many years, and having their support has been instrumental in keeping our mission of freeing the world of cancer alive. The donations we receive from this event helps us offer support year-round for those in our community who need it most,” said Cindy Kovacik, senior development manager of the American Cancer Society of Kalamazoo.

The event will include a social cocktail hour, a silent auction, a live auction, and a chance to win a new Honda Accord or $30,000 cash. Each $250 ticket will admit two guests and is redeemable for one entry into the new car or cash prize drawing. To purchase a ticket or for additional information, please call Beth Kalleward at (269) 488-2203 or email bk@zeigler.com. Media requests to cover the event are available on a first come first serve basis, please email Francis Mariela at fm@zeigler.com to reserve your spot.

Zeigler Auto Group Expands into Wisconsin with Four New Dealers, Largest Acquisition to Date

Zeigler Auto Group today announced the purchase of four new dealerships in Wisconsin previously owned by the Home Run Auto Group, marking acquisitions number 32 through 35 and Zeigler’s first ever locations in the state. The deal, which closed today, Monday, July 26, 2021, includes Honda of Racine, Toyota of Racine, Kenosha Subaru, and Racine Hyundai—giving the dealer group its first Toyota and Hyundai; and its second Honda and Subaru dealerships. All locations have reopened under the Zeigler name as of today.

Milwaukee, Wis. (July 26, 2021) -- Zeigler Auto Group announces the purchase of four new dealerships from Home Run Auto Group owners Jim Bozich and Mark Geiger, with closing scheduled for today, Monday, July 26, 2021. The acquisition, Zeigler’s first in the state of Wisconsin, includes Honda of Racine, Toyota of Racine, Kenosha Subaru, and Racine Hyundaiwith all stores now under the Zeigler name.

“We are very proud to be expanding Zeigler into the great state of Wisconsin. We know that the community here will appreciate the way we do business, not just in how we go above and beyond for every single customer, but also in the way that we make it a priority to actively take part in the communities where we operate,” said Aaron Zeigler, president and owner of Zeigler Auto Group.

With this new purchase Zeigler adds two new franchises: Toyota and Hyundai to its growing brand portfolio, as well as a second Honda and Subaru location. It will also add a total of 14,000 vehicle sales a year to the organization with Zeigler pacing to retail over 67,000 vehicles collectively and over $2.2 billion in sales next year.

Now having purchased nine new stores in the last 16 months, Zeigler says his growth strategy has always been, and will always be customer-focused. “Besides the fact that these are top performing, high volume stores, we chose these stores because of their great potential. They will without a doubt offer all of our customers, both current and new, access to more choices with their locations being right off the highway.”

The dealer group previously acquired Mercedes-Benz and Sprinter of Hoffman Estates, INFINITI of Hoffman Estates, and Jaguar Land Rover of Schaumburg in January 2020; and Subaru of Merrillville in May of this year.

As of today, the new Zeigler dealerships will be rebranded as follows:

Zeigler Donates ATV to Sherman Lake YMCA

Zeigler Auto Group, a long-time supporter of the Sherman Lake YMCA, has stepped up once again in support of the organization by donating a new ATV through Zeigler Motorsports. The new Kawasaki Mule Side x Side is a welcome addition to the center as a safe and reliable way for campers and staff to navigate Sherman Lake YMCA's 360-acre property.

Zeigler Donates ATV to Sherman Lake YMCA

Sherman Lake, Mich. (July 14, 2021) -- Zeigler Auto Group recently donated a new Kawasaki Mule to the local Sherman Lake YMCA through Zeigler Motorsports. Although the Sherman Lake YMCA has a number of trucks and golf carts to help employees, volunteers and campers get around, the new Kawasaki Mule has made it easier to navigate the center's massive 360-acre property, which includes a 55,000-square-foot recreation center.

"We are a very unique YMCA. We are the only YMCA in the nation that has its campground on the same property as its traditional YMCA facility," said Zach Klipsch, director of the Sherman Lake YMCA.

With the organization serving around 250 kids on site a day, not only is it safer for camper pickups and drop-offs, it is also more efficient when it comes to making repairs and getting around during emergencies.

Zeigler Auto Group donates Kawasaki Mule Side by Side to Sherman Lake YMCA

"It's been a jack of all trades for us. In fact, I think it is the single most-used item we've gotten from our last capital campaign so far. We use it that much," said Klipsch.

The capital endowment campaign was started pre-pandemic, but took a big hit because of the state-wide shutdowns. Roughly from March to September, during these shutdowns, they partnered with the Kalamazoo YMCA to prepare over 100,000 meals for those in need. They targeted communities that had food insecurity and relied on food lunches as a means to eat.

It was also during the pandemic that the organization decided they needed an ATV. They knew that it would help to have one once campers started to come back and activity picked back up. It was then that Klipsch decided to reach out to Aaron Zeigler, president and owner of Zeigler Auto Group and Zeigler Motorsports, to ask for a discount on a new ATV. To his surprise Aaron, a long-time personal supporter of the Sherman Lake YMCA, offered to donate the vehicle to the YMCA instead.

But this isn't the first time that Zeigler has shown the organization support, Zeigler is regularly a title sponsor for a number of events at the Sherman Lake YMCA. Among many others, the two biggest events are the Shermanator Triathlon and the Success for Every Child Gala.

The Shermanator Triathlon is a short distance triathlon for 200-220 people that takes place every August. The event's main goal is to raise money to provide scholarships to the Y for families. Zeigler has been a title sponsor for this event for over 10 years, and although the organization is not planning on hosting one this year, they plan on being back on schedule for 2022.

The Success for Every Child Gala, which usually takes place on the third or fourth Friday of June, is a gala that helps raise money to send kids to camp who otherwise wouldn't be able to go. The event features a sit down dinner for about 200 people with a silent and live auction.

The Sherman Lake YMCA serves 20,000 people and gives around $150,000 to $200,000 in scholarships every year with the support of donors like Zeigler. These scholarships make it possible for kids from other districts without resources to access everything the YMCA has to offer. In fact, the organization hosts around 5,000 children from 50 different schools for about 3 days and 2 nights during the school year. During this time, kids are given the opportunity to participate in different activities that help with developmental and leadership skills.

ABOUT SHERMAN LAKE YMCA

Sherman Lake YMCA serves over 20,000 people each year through programs (Day, Resident, and Teen Leadership Summer Camps, Integrated Education, YMCA Health Well Being Memberships, and Conferences, Trainings, & Retreats) that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

The Integrated (Character Education) program is an award winning school camp program that incorporates a deep partnership with schools including the professional development of teachers in teaching life skills.

The Sherman Lake YMCA is a totally accessible facility and organization that believes in "Success for Every Child".

Facilities include a Center for Integrated (Character) Education, a large conference dining hall, three villages, a farm and horse riding facilities, a mile of shoreline on Sherman Lake, and a one of a kind indoor recreation center serving the surrounding local communities as a YMCA wellness membership facility.

The Sherman Lake YMCA has three areas of focus, Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The primary program goal is building strong, resilient youth and families using the core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville Presents Local Charity Chasing Dreams, Inc with $24,208 Check

Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville recently donated $24,208 to Chasing Dreams, Inc., a local charity dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities learn the life skills needed to lead a more independent life. The donation was part of the Subaru Share the Love Event sponsored by Subaru of America, Inc., where the auto manufacturer donated $250 and the dealer donated $50 to the customer’s choice of charities for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased.

Merrillville, Ind. (July 1, 2021) -- Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville presented local charity Chasing Dreams, Inc. with a $24,208 check on Thursday, June 10, 2021. The check presentation took place at the dealership’s showroom with Denise Babjak, the organization’s founder and several leaders and beneficiaries accepting the donation.

"It was a very heartfelt experience presenting the check to Denise and her team. We're humbled by the opportunity to support Chasing Dreams, Inc. and honored to be able to give back to such a great cause," said Kyle Faiman, Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville’s general manager.

The donation was made possible by the Subaru Share the Love Event sponsored by Subaru of America, Inc. During the promotional event the automaker donates $250 for every Subaru vehicle purchased or leased. The dealer, in turn, donates an additional $50. The customer purchasing or leasing the vehicle then gets to choose where the money goes, with the majority of Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville customers choosing Chasing Dreams, Inc.— a local charity committed to to providing integrated and vital programs for individuals with special needs and their families, that facilitate an environment of growth, learning, and independence.

Mark Artibey, Zeigler of Merrillville’s new car director, nominated Chasing Dreams, Inc during the Share The Love Event as the store’s choice after the issue of lack of support for people with disabilities hit close to home. He was surprised to learn about the lack of funding for people with down syndrome at a federal and state level from a close friend who had a child with down syndrome.

“I really started getting more involved when my friend Denise Babjak, who has a child with down syndrome and autism, started the nonprofit organization Chasing Dreams, Inc. They basically take anyone at any age, with any disability, and help with education, life skills, and anything else they may need without charging the family for anything. It’s 100% free!”

He also noted that it was heartwarming to see more and more people choosing to donate to the local charity, where the community could see and feel the impact right here at home.

As for what the nonprofit plans to do with the donation, the founder says that there are plans to expand Chasing Dreams’s education programs because she feels that education is the basis for everything the organization provides.

“We are beyond grateful to Zeigler Subaru for sharing so much love with us. We have never felt so loved before. This will make a huge impact in providing educational programs to the community,” said Babjak, the organization’s founder. She also said that the organization is always looking for volunteers for those wanting to contribute within the community.

Zeigler Subaru of Merrillville has also announced that it will be once again supporting Chasing Dreams Inc during the upcoming Share The Love Event.

Zeigler Auto Group's New Hot Air Balloon Takes Flight Just in Time for Easter

Zeigler’s new, branded hot air balloon successfully completed its first flight on Sunday, April 4, 2021. The Easter Sunday flight took off at Jamestown Elementary in Hudsonville, Michigan at 6:45p.m. and concluded an hour later in a sod field just north of Hudsonville. The pilot, Derrick Jones, a world-renowned hot air balloonist, is also the general sales manager at Zeigler Maserati-Alfa Romeo-Fiat of Grandville.

Kalamazoo, MI (April 5, 2021) -- Zeigler Auto Group unveiled its new hot air balloon yesterday, April 4, 2021, during a test flight piloted by its Zeigler Maserati-Alfa Romeo-Fiat of Grandville general sales manager, Derrick Jones — an award-winning pilot with 26 years of experience. Taking off from Jamestown Elementary on Easter Sunday at 6:45p.m., the hot air balloon concluded its voyage roughly an hour later just north of Hudsonville.

Jones, a member of the Balloon Federation of America since 1995 and the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale since 2011, says he started crewing at the age of 9, took his first flight at 12, and received his student pilot certificate at 14 —becoming one of the youngest pilots in the Great Lakes Area at the time. Later he received his private pilot license at 16 and his commercial one at just 21.

“I came up with this idea not just to share my passion for ballooning, but also to represent the innovation that we so deeply value at Zeigler Automotive Group,” said Jones, the balloon’s pilot and Zeigler Maserati-Alfa Romeo-Fiat sales manager.  “I was excited to see everything come to fruition and to see this dream come to life.”

The Zeigler balloon's next official flight will be at Hudsonville Balloon Days, during Father’s Day weekend. It will also be at Kalamazoo Balloon Fest in Gull Meadow Farms at the end of August, and at Balloons Over Bay Harbor during the third weekend of September. Zeigler also plans to use the hot air balloon as a way to reward outstanding employees throughout the year and has plans to donate rides as raffle items for its Drive for Life Event, which will take place in the fall.

“At Zeigler we are driven to empower our team members to think outside the box while giving them the tools to execute projects they truly believe in. To me this is the epitome of one of those moments that has knocked it right out of the ballpark,” said Aaron Zeigler, president and owner of Zeigler Auto Group.

Zeigler Announces Alex Gramza as its 2020 Rising Tech Award Winner

Zeigler Automotive Group has chosen Alex Gramza of Zeigler Ford of Lowell to take home its inaugural Rising Tech Award -- part of an initiative established in 2019 to recognize rising service talent within the dealership group.

Kalamazoo, Mich. (September 4, 2020) As part of its newest initiative, Zeigler has named its first Rising Tech Award winner. The award program, which was established in 2019, recognizes rising service talent within the entire dealer group.

"Zeigler is a great place to work. People are nice and helpful. They really help you get stuff done and you really do learn a lot," said Alex Gramza, Zeigler’s first ever winner.

In order to qualify for the Zeigler Rising Tech Award, service technicians must be nominated by their managers and be new to the industry with at least nine months, but no more than two years of non-lube, technical experience reported. Nominations are based on average hours turned monthly, making the total number of hours worked in the previous year its most important criteria. Attitude, work ethic and other intangibles are also considered when selecting the winner.

Gramza received his nomination from service manager Kevin Mangus after averaging 2,401 hours in 2019, putting him at 200 hours per month. He was recognized for his accomplishment at an intimate ceremony at Zeigler CDJR of Grandville back in June.

Alex Gramza - Zeigler's First Rising Tech Award Recipient 2020However, this was not the first time Gramza has stood out for his work ethic and dedication. After starting at Zeigler Ford of Lowell in 2018, Gramza quickly established himself as one of Zeigler’s most hardworking and talented service techs, earning a spot in the 2019 Top 15 - Domestic Techs list for the entire dealer group. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Zeigler will be unable to host its annual Presidents Club celebration for its service and sales team.

Aside from winning Zeigler’s first-ever Rising Tech Award, and earning a spot in the 2019 Presidents Club for Service, Gramza was also awarded $9,500 in funds through the Zeigler Service Sponsorship Program while at UTI. During his time there, Gramza led his class as a top performing student while completing fifteen weeks of FORD FACT (Ford Accelerated Credential Training).

Gramza credits the time spent with his father on projects for his passion in the field. "I loved spending that time with him and I always had a natural knack for working on anything with a motor in it."
